WHAT MEDIUMS, BRUSHES, ETC.  DO YOU USE?

I work mostly with gouache (both Windsor and Newton Designers and Turner Acryl) and watercolor on a variety of papers. Right now, my favorites are the thick, dappled cold-press ones made by Arches...so luxurious! Sometimes I paint directly on colored paper or cardboard when I want a colored background. My favorite brushes are the watercolor sable ones made by Princeton, and I like them really tiny (0 or 1 round).

WHERE DO YOU HAVE YOUR PRINTS MADE?

They're printed at my house. This summer, I invested in a wonderful professional-grade photo printer made by Canon. It's a workhorse. All my work is printed on Hahnemuhle William Turner watercolor paper, which is mould-made and has a gorgeous texture.

WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE?

As of November 2012, I'm shooting with a Canon 5D Mark ii. The only lens I own so far is the 50 mm f/1.4, and I love it. This full-frame world is very new to me so I'm really excited about all there is to learn!

HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR PHOTOS?

I used to edit all my photos in Photoshop CS6, but recently switched to Lightroom 4 and am downright bewildered by how much I like it! I still have lots to learn, but right now I mainly adjust the tone curve and fidgit with the highlight and shadow colors.

CAN YOU HELP ME WITH MY BLOG/ART BUSINESS/ETSY SHOP?

I get a lot of emails asking for help with this sort of thing and I am so flattered! However, (regretfully) I won't be able to respond to all of them individually. I only have a certain number of work hours in the day, and I need to spend most of them painting! But I will try to respond the the most frequent ones here :)

HOW DO I GET A CUSTOM HOUSE PORTRAIT?

I would love to work with you on a custom home portrait. My house portraits are $150 for an 8 x 10 original painting on 190 lb. Arches watercolor paper, which is mould-made, archival, and guaranteed to last over a lifetime. The price also includes up to two pets, custom lettering, and a CD with digital file for printing (as well as instructions for making notecards via an online printing service).

Unfortunately, I am all booked up on house portraits for the rest of 2013. I am planning to reopen the wait list in early 2014, and hope we can work together at that time!
